Content creator and media personality Steve Thompson, better known as Oga Obinna, has proudly announced a major academic win—his graduation from Mount Kenya University with a First Class Honours degree in Mass Media and Communication.
Obinna shared the news across his social platforms, celebrating not just the achievement, but the long road it took to get there. He reflected openly on his tough educational past, including dropping out of school, calling the moment proof that persistence pays off.
“From the village, to the city, to the streets, to the hustle, the struggle, and back to school… it’s been an interesting ride,” he wrote, adding gratitude to God and to himself for not giving up.
He highlighted the contrast between his early academic challenges and the success he now enjoys, noting how meaningful the accomplishment feels after years of setbacks. His graduation took place during MKU’s 28th ceremony on December 5, 2025.
Obinna’s posts included several standout images from the event—one showing him beaming in full MKU graduation attire, another capturing a more reflective moment, and a close-up screenshot listing him among the 12 students who earned First Class Honours.
His story has since been embraced as an inspiring reminder that returning to education later in life is possible and powerful. Mount Kenya University, one of Kenya’s leading private institutions, conferred degrees ranging from PhDs to Bachelor’s during the ceremony.
