Malava parliamentary aspirant Seth Panyako has described the recent by-election in his constituency as one of the most distressing political experiences of his career, citing violence, intimidation, and property destruction. Speaking on Obinna Show Live, Panyako recounted the events before, during, and after the vote, claiming orchestrated disruptions marred the process.
He alleged that groups of youths were mobilized and trained to create chaos across Malava, despite prior warnings to local leaders and security agencies. The situation escalated on election day, with Panyako claiming he was physically attacked, several of his vehicles destroyed, and the hotel where he and his team were staying vandalized. A widely circulated video showed him visibly distressed at a polling station, which he explained was the result of cumulative pressure from the day’s events.
Although declared the loser, Panyako insisted he actually won, alleging vote tampering and irregularities in the final tally. He said he later received what he called a “surprising offer” but rejected it, refusing to compromise his principles.
In response, Panyako announced plans for a symbolic swearing-in as the “people’s MP,” echoing former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s 2017 symbolic oath as “people’s president.” He described the move as a statement against what he views as electoral irregularities and thanked the people of Malava for their support and belief in his leadership throughout the campaign.
