Geoffrey Mosiria’s career is a blend of ingenuity, leadership, and public service, highlighted by his work at Pumwani Maternity Hospital and his clever approach to accessing high-profile events. In his Lessons at 30 series, Mosiria recalled using simple strategies to navigate complex situations—like wearing a second-hand suit to gain entry to exclusive events after being blocked in a t-shirt. During one event with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, he even “blended in” with security to ensure access, demonstrating quick thinking and confidence under pressure.
Mosiria’s most lasting impact, however, came from his tenure at Pumwani, a hospital previously plagued by poor operations, revenue leakages, and security issues. The facility was notorious for child theft, with an internal criminal cartel. Mosiria intervened decisively, apprehending individuals attempting to abduct babies, dismantling the network, and restoring safety for mothers and newborns.
He overhauled security by introducing visitor registration, replacing contracted staff with internal security, and stopping unauthorized sales within the hospital. Revenue collection was streamlined with clear discharge and payment procedures, ensuring accountability.
Mosiria also prioritized infrastructure and patient experience. Through renovations, improved sanitation, and better facilities—new beds, mattresses, and functional toilets—Pumwani became cleaner and more efficient. Annual revenue rose from around 45 million to nearly 150 million KSh during his tenure, attracting more patients and boosting the hospital’s reputation.
His reforms resonated personally and professionally, as notable figures, including his sister, an engineer, and other clients, chose Pumwani for childbirth. Mosiria emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in any institution, noting that a well-run facility directly impacts the people it serves.
From creative problem-solving in social settings to transformative leadership in healthcare, Geoffrey Mosiria’s story reflects a rare combination of strategy, dedication, and tangible impact.
